“Thunderous Traveler”

My theme words for the Enamel Art Jam 2022 were "Thunderous traveler" and I dont know about you, but I definitely have a thunderous traveler who emerges, and sometimes over the most trivial of things. This is why I chose an illustration of "A storm in a teacup".

I am a qualified jeweller, but a hobbyist enameller and this piece may have been beyond my current skill set, but I guess that is how we learn.

This piece was made using, Fine silver, leaded enamel, silver cloisonne wires and silver foil. This is the biggest piece I have made and I learnt so many things, through so many mistakes. For example, I'm not ready/ practised enough to tackle big fusing jobs (After several attempts, I got scared of melting the fine silver and I had to break out the solder. I apparently also stressed the metal to the point where it developed a few hairline cracks). Opaque colours are far more temperamental with firing temperatures (I burnt the edges of the white and pink colours). There is also an important difference between foil and leaf (The lightning strike is a little thick) and I need to be more careful with enamel spillage out of the cloisonne cells.

Every grain matters!
