“Celestial Transitions”

I interpreted "celestial transitions" to be those times when we see change in the night sky. In order to try something new and different, I opted for a larger canvas (trinket dishes) than my usual (jewelry). I did stay in my comfort zone, however, with the technique... all the designs are sifted 80-mesh enamels. The design shapes were created by tracing my ideas onto cardstock and then cutting the designs out by hand. I used these as homemade stencils for sifting the enamels. I hope my pieces convey that feeling of transitions in the cosmos. I chose some of the celestial transitions that most fascinate me: aurora borealis, eclipses, comets, nebula, etc. With the MacGyvering of some brushes, scissors, picks, and tape I created a few new tools in my studio that helped me achieve the special enamel effects I was after.
