“Subterranean Celebration”

For the theme I was given, subterranean celebration, I interpreted it as looking beneath the surface and giving thanks for or celebrating that. This theme and consequently the piece for this exhibition are in line with my current collection "I am here" a body of work that explores the land on which I am currently living and pays homage to that land. For this piece, I gathered soil from the area surrounding my home and incorporated it into the enamel. You'll notice there are matte areas within the enamel. This was the result of firing a thin layer of soil into the enamel. The overall imagery within the enamel is my interpretation of a landscape that is heavily inspired by the Tuscan landscape in which I live.
