“ Shadowy Horizon “

I wanted to incorporate my passion for making vessels with using fine copper mesh for this project. After a number of different attempts using just copper mesh I decided to try to incorporate the mesh with a 20 gauge copper vessel. The provided theme of Shadowy Horizons inspired an evening view of the landscape of a favorite place, the Smoky Mountains. Attaching the mesh to the vessel to create the textured mountains was a big challenge, finally accomplished by using copper wire with through holes, which were removed after several coats of enamel on the interior and exterior. I raised several of the small base vessel pieces before I got the shape and diameter correct. Another new technique I figured out was how to successfully fire in some clear faceted cubic zirconas, which I added into counter sunk holes in the vessel to represent three evening stars, along with bits of silver foil for the scattering of small stars. I loved this challenge of creating something new to a theme, and will definitely further explore these techniques!
