“ Joyful Epiphany“

The theme intrigued me, as I was coming out of a difficult year, searching for joy and some new direction in my life. I wanted to challenge myself to create an enamel piece that was a complete departure from my typical monochromatic cloisonne and champleve work, and wanted to use intense colors. The profile head represents my thinking hard about "joy", which is the garden of flowers coming to life after winter. I do a lot of work in ancient Viking runes, and I tucked away the Joy rune in the cloisonne wires, plus added it to the back of the piece. My personal epiphany is to let go of my usual expectations, let the line drawing be more freeform and let the enamel colors take center stage. My mantra became "All the colors!!" While working on this piece, I also created some additional enamel works that feature the most vibrant, intense colors I have in my enamel stash.
